On The Cloud

This column will be about my recent flight back to Vietnam.

Haven’t been able to go back to Vietnam for 2 years due to COVID; the day finally came, and I got all excited (obviously). The total duration was about 21 hours. Almost a day in the sky, ain’t it?

As much as I was excited to go home, I was more amazed by “The Room” 45000 ft up. From my previous experiences, ANA business classes did not have sliding doors but just a “private booth” for each passenger. The room was an extra step in providing privacy, and the cabin space was substantially larger. I had an overnight flight, so my pictures were super dark ;( I will take better pictures next time.

When all the passengers were seated, the flight attendant came and greeted me with my name, introduced them, and showed me the functions of “The Room,” how to connect to their on-board wifi, and they must do it with all the passengers in the business cabin (unfortunately, it was a full flight so…. RIP to all the flight attendances).

“The Room” has a fully flat seat, spacious leg room, sliding doors, 24 inch personal monitor with 4k display, numerous power ports, and USB ports. I remember there was a USB port by the seat, so it was very convenient to charge and use the device simultaneously. There was also a touch monitor controller by the side, for easy access to the entertainment system. There were lots of movies and games provided, but that wasn’t my main concern for the flight. The first thing I looked at was the food and beverages menu.

The drink menu was loaded with champagnes, wine, cocktails, and non-alcoholic drinks. The ANA citrus special was my favorite, and I would recommend trying that. There were 2 main meal options (Asian and International) and various snacks in between meals. Here are the courses that I chose. I was satisfied with the Asian option, but they also allow to mix-match between the 2 cuisines, so if you want, you could try that. The food was light, fresh, and well-decorated. I love the attention to detail that was put into the preparation despite the limited “kitchen space” and time constrain to serve all the passengers.

After dinner, the flight attendant came and made my “bed.” Then I go on my social media and talk to family a bit, then fall asleep after a long day. I woke up after about 4 hours and order super because why not? Gotta try it all, right? So, I ordered a pull pork sandwich and Japanese ramen “feeling bloated”. In my opinion, the sandwich wasn’t as expected, but ANA Ramen will never disappoint you. MUST TRY!

I almost forgot about the amenity kit. The pink pouch was so cute and had all the essentials that you will need for a long flight. You could keep it as a souvenir too.

I chose ANA – All Nippon Airways for my trip because I love Japan, and they have the best in-flight service based on my experience. The domestic leg was carried by United Airlines (ANA partner under Star Alliance, and both the international routes were on ANA. I highly recommend getting your own room on long-duration flights. If you want my review of the other airline cabins, please leave it in the comment section below.
